A 5:1 load-to-truck ratio on DAT Load Boards was seen for dry van freight last week. It’s the highest load-to-truck national average since March 2014, when demand skyrocketed with polar-vortex-related severe weather and led a big rates rally on the spot market that year. “This is a great sign that June is going to be very good to carriers,” notes DAT’s Ken Harper.

After a five-month delay due to regulatory reviews ordered by the Trump Administration, a rule setting national training standards for new truck drivers has become law. Effective as of June 5, the rule offers a nearly three-year compliance window, giving carriers, trainers and other stakeholders until February 2020 to comply with the rule.

The rule will apply to CDL applicants who receive their CDLs on Feb. 7, 2020, and after.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s annual International Roadcheck inspection spree will be held next month, June 6-8, across North America.

CVSA plans the 72-hour event each summer to “conduct compliance, enforcement and educational initiatives.”

Cargo securement will be the main point of emphasis for inspectors this year. While this is a normal part of CVSA’s Level I inspections, the organization says its inspectors will be highlighting cargo securement as a reminder to drivers and fleets of its importance.
