Fast on the Track, Safe on the Road

Bill Collins took the Interstate Truck Driving School racing Corvette to the SCCA Majors Event at Blackhawk Farms Raceway on April 30th and May 1st.

Bill is competing against some very expensive machinery with several Porsches and a few BMWs. His car is a 2004 Z06 Corvette that he purchased after it had been wrecked. Bill then had Doug Rippie Motorsports repair the car along with dong the preperation for racing.  The rules in the class he competes in does not allow any performance modifications to the motor....in fact, the throttle body is restricted to 55mm, down from the stock 75mm. DRM was allowed by the rules to update the suspension and brakes along with adding safety equipment like the roll cage but otherwise the car is stock.

This video is the first couple laps of the feature race on Sunday May 1st. If you watch closely, you can see how intensly Bill is concentrating behind the wheel. This same focus on the driving task is appropriate behind the wheel of a big rig.  Driver distraction is the largest single cause of vehicle accidents in the U.S. today so professional truck drivers can take a page from the race track to emphasis how important it is to keep the driver's attention on the road.

Bill hopes to compete at several more events during the summer and we will post more video when they become available.
