FMCSA Makes Changes To Safety Measurment System For CSA

The FMCSA made quite a few changes recently to the Safety Measurement System (SMS) for the CSA’s safety-enforcement program for motor carriers. FMCSA Administrator Anne Ferro called the changes “enhancements” and claimed that it will provide the agency with a more precise information to assess a company’s on-the-road safety performance. ““Strengthening the Vehicle Maintenance BASIC by moving cargo violations into it will improve our focus on carriers that are higher crash risks. Creating a ‘stand alone’ Hazardous Materials BASIC will better identify hazmat-related safety and compliance problems at both carriers and shippers.”

Will The Driver Shortage Lead To Industry Action?

We all know that there is a driver shortage. There has been for some time. But with the shortage reaching peak and record levels, some say that the industry will have to take some sort of action to counter the high turnover. One of those actions could be to give drivers more home time. Truck Driver Testimonial – Jake B.
