DRUG TEST REQUIRED

The United States Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requires that all truck driving school students must comply with FMCSR Part 382 requiring a drug screen prior to driving a commercial vehicle owned or leased by a truck driving school. Interstate Truck Driving School is in full compliance with Federal DOT regulations and thus all students need to submit to a drug screen prior to scheduling their first appointment with an instructor.

Do not confuse the DOT physical with the Drug Screen. When you take a physical you do provide a urine specimen but it is to check for high blood sugar and diabetes. The drug screen is an entirely separate process checking for controlled substances.

The charge for the drug screen is $60.00 and is normally included with all of our training programs. The DOT physical is also included in the longer comprehensive programs but not for the short programs.

Drug screens are collected at our office and then sent off to the lab at METOX. Please call ahead to make sure one of our staff is available to provide you with the drug screen collection (and drink some water or coffee on the way in).

Students who have had a drug screen from their employer within the last 30 days may use the results of that test to comply with Federal regulations. The employer will need to fax the results to our office at 651-735-9130. Our office manager will notify you if the results meet the criteria required by the DOT.

Owners of small businesses may want to set up a proper drug testing program to comply with the Federal regulations.  We can give you advice on what to do and who can assist you to provide the tools you need to get your business in compliance.  The Federal Drug Testing Rules may sound confusing at first but give Bill Collins a call in our office and he will be happy to give you the information you need.

Please call our office at 651-735-9250 if you have any questions.
